Wave Springs

WAVE SPRINGS

Wave springs are flat-wire compression springs formed into a wavy (sine-wave) pattern. This geometry allows them to exert force with a much shorter working height than conventional coil springs. In fact, wave springs can often achieve the same load as a coil spring while reducing the needed axial space by up to 50% . They are ideal for assemblies where minimal space is available but a reliable spring force is required.

We manufacture wave springs in materials such as high-carbon spring steel, stainless steel, and advanced alloy steels(e.g. chrome silicon or chrome vanadium) for enhanced performance and corrosion resistance. These springs provide precise and consistent load deflection, making them popular for bearing preloads, valve assemblies, gearboxes, and other tight-space applications. Wave springs also minimize weight and axial size, helping engineers achieve compact, lightweight designs without sacrificing force or stability.

  • Space-Efficient Design: Offers significant height reduction (up to 50% less axial space) compared to standard coil springs , enabling more compact product designs.
  • High Load with Low Deflection: Delivers adequate force and spring rate in confined spaces, maintaining a stable preload over a small deflection range.
  • Typical Applications: Used for preloading ball bearings, seals, and valves, as well as in automotive transmissions, aerospace mechanisms, and medical devices where space is at a premium.
  • Material Options: Available in carbon steel for high strength, stainless steel for corrosion resistance, and alloy steels like chrome-silicon/chrome-vanadium for high fatigue and high-temperature applications.

Common Applications

Heavy machinery and construction equipment
Aerospace and Aviation Components

Used in actuators, valves, connectors, and tight-space mechanisms where weight reduction and compact spring design are critical.

Transmissions and automotive powertrain assemblies
Automotive Systems

Applied in clutches, transmissions, seals, ABS systems, and bearing preload
assemblies to reduce spring height while maintaining force.

Aerospace and defence components
Medical Devices &
Equipment

Found in surgical tools, implantable devices, pumps, and miniaturized mechanisms due to their precise, compact, and reliable performance.

Precision mechanical systems requiring zero axial play
Electronics & Electrical Connectors

Used for maintaining contact force in connectors, switches, battery contacts, and small electromechanical devices.

Hydraulic and pneumatic actuators
Industrial Machinery & Pumps

Utilized in mechanical seals, valve assemblies, couplings, and high-cycle industrial equipment where controlled loads are required in limited space.

Electric motor and rotor shaft assemblies
Bearing Preload Applications

One of the most common uses—wave springs maintain consistent preload in ball bearings to reduce noise, vibration, and wear while accommodating thermal expansion.
